Blue Jays held silent in opener of ALCS

KANSAS CITY -- Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion was forced to leave Toronto's 5-0 loss in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Friday night in the eighth inning with a ligament sprain in his left middle finger.

Encarnacion's departure came at a time Toronto was threatening to get back into the game. The Blue Jays began the eighth inning trailing, 3-0, and had a pair of runners on base when Encarnacion's spot in the batting order came up with one out.
