Blue Jays hand Pillar two-game suspension

ATLANTA -- In a joint decision between the Blue Jays and Major League Baseball on Thursday, centre fielder Kevin Pillar has been suspended two games for his use of a homophobic slur during Toronto's 8-4 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night.

Pillar, who expressed deep remorse, directed his slur toward Atlanta right-hander Jason Motte following a strikeout in the seventh inning. He took exception to a quick pitch from Motte and then uttered the derogatory term. The exchange prompted the dugouts on both sides to empty.

Pillar issued a statement on Thursday afternoon that acknowledged he used a homophobic term.
