TORONTO — Two of baseball’s best closers couldn’t close the deal on Thursday afternoon.
Both Roberto Osuna for the Toronto Blue Jays and Craig Kimbrel for the Boston Red Sox gave up runs in the ninth inning at the Rogers Centre to spoil excellent performances by their respective starters.
Osuna gave up a run in the top of the ninth to allow the Red Sox to jump ahead 1-0 before Kimbrel, taking over from a commanding Chris Sale in the bottom of the ninth, gave up a lead-off home run to Toronto DH Kendrys Morales. Morales launched a 1-0 offering over the centre field fence to tie the game 1-1.
