Blue Jays downed in extras, miss out on sweep of Orioles

TORONTO — In the battle of the birds, the Baltimore Orioles are once again flying higher than the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Orioles scored four runs in the top of the 12th inning on Sunday to break a 2-2 tie and down the Jays 6-2 at the Rogers Centre, regaining top spot in the AL East.

Toronto defeated the Orioles 9-1 on Saturday to move into first but the Orioles avoided the sweep by defeating their rivals with an extra-inning victory and now sit 1/2 game ahead.

With the scored deadlocked, Jays manager John Gibbons brought in Franklin Morales to pitch the 12th and the left-handed reliever promptly walked lead off batter Pedro Alvarez in four pitches.
