The Blue Jays announced a series of roster moves Tuesday afternoon, including designating right-hander Jason Grilli for assignment and reinstating outfielder Ezequiel Carrera from the 10-day disabled list. Toronto also recalled right-hander Chris Smith and optioned outfielder Dwight Smith Jr. to Triple-A Buffalo.
Grilli, 40, enjoyed a resurgence with the Blue Jays last season after being acquired in late May in a trade with the Braves, but he struggled to maintain that success in 2017. The veteran reliever went 6-4 with a 3.64 ERA in 42 innings with Toronto in 2016 before going 2-4 with a 6.
