It isn’t going to make the ‘Re-sign David Price’ crowd very happy but the Blue Jays have, quickly and efficiently, plugged the obvious gaps in their starting rotation without touching their core lineup. And all before December 1.
That’s the good news. On the other hand, it is less obvious whether this is a pitching staff that can take the Jays back to the playoffs and, more importantly, into a World Series.
The Jays announced Friday evening that they had signed J.A. Happ to a three-year, $36-million contract, bringing the lefty back into the fold a year after they traded him away for outfielder Michael Saunders.
