Bautista tests ailing shoulder by throwing

TORONTO -- Jose Bautista, dealing with a strained right shoulder, threw from 40 feet in the cages ahead of the Blue Jays' series opener against the Angels on Monday.

The club said in a brief note to the media that Bautista felt OK and would continue to progress.

Bautista has been limited to a designated-hitter role since he strained his throwing shoulder in a home game against the Orioles on April 21. The injury has affected his throwing but not his swinging, further evidenced by his two hits in his first three at-bats on Monday.
