Bautista gets cortisone shot in right shoulder

TORONTO -- Jose Bautista sat out of Sunday's series finale against the Mariners after receiving a cortisone shot in his injured right shoulder.

Bautista has assumed the everyday designated-hitter role for nearly a month as he recovers from a strain in his throwing shoulder. The injury has prevented him from playing the field but not from swinging.

Generally, a cortisone shot means a player will be out of action for 48 to 72 hours, meaning Bautista likely won't play Monday, but he could return Tuesday. There's still no timeline for his return to the field.
