The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to acquire star lefty David Price from the Tigers, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
The marquee piece coming to the Tigers in return is top Blue Jays pitching prospect Daniel Norris, Heyman adds, along with fellow pitchers Jairo Labourt and Matt Boyd.
This marks the second time in two years that Price has featured as a marquee summer trade chip, but he’s a pure rental this year with the goal of driving the Blue Jays to what they hope will be a long postseason run this year.
Toronto had been pursuing one or more arms to bolster their staff for weeks, and the acquisition of Price wwill certainly do that and then some. The Blue Jays already made a splash this week by trading for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, making this their second big move of the week.
The Cubs, Giants, Yankees, and Dodgers all had conversations with the Tigers about Price within the past 24 hours, but Toronto showed the willingness to part with top prospects needed to get a deal done quickly.
