Donald Young had more important things on his mind than his tennis shoes Monday, things like how to beat the No. 5 player in the world. Still, it was a little galling that the day before, an attendant in the men’s locker room had absconded with the contents of Young’s locker, including his sneakers.
Young posted on Twitter about the disappearing shoes on Sunday, and on Monday he relayed the explanation he had been given: The attendant apparently thought Young had already been ousted from the tournament, so he cleaned out Young’s locker, an inadvertent act of disrespect toward a player who had enlivened the tournament with his inspirational play.
