Yankees, With Leaping Save by Hicks, Stay Alive in A.L. East Race

It was the former Yankees catcher Yogi Berra who supposedly said, “It ain’t over till it’s over” while he was managing the Mets to their improbable 1973 pennant run.

But his words could ring true for the 2017 Yankees, a team that was expected during spring training to be entering a rebuilding year. With five games left in their season, however, the Yankees find themselves still hanging on in the hunt for the American League East title.

With a 6-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night, coupled with the Boston Red Sox’s 9-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees not only clinched home-field advantage for a wild-card playoff game but also gained ground in their improbable push to catch the Red Sox.
