The Yankees placed the veteran left-hander C. C. Sabathia on the disabled list Monday, confirming fears that his reinjured knee will require at least a couple of weeks of rest and rehabilitation.
Beyond that, however, there was little clarity about the severity of Sabathia’s injury — which the team called right knee inflammation — or how long it might take the 35-year-old Sabathia to recover and feel confident pitching on a leg that has already been surgically repaired twice.
Manager Joe Girardi said before Monday’s game against Houston that the Yankees had been fighting to preserve Sabathia’s knee throughout the year.
