New York (AFP) - New York's 10,000th franchise victory carried added significance Thursday as the Yankees clinched their first playoff spot since 2012 with a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox.
Right fielder Carlos Beltran, first baseman Greg Bird and second baseman Rob Refsnyder hit solo home runs while pitcher CC Sabathia tossed five innings as the Yankees claimed a wild card spot and avoided a series sweep to Boston.
