ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Four days after Ivan Nova was knocked out of a start against the Toronto Blue Jays in the second inning, he was knocked out of the rotation.
Nova was sent to the bullpen Wednesday as Yankees Manager Joe Girardi admitted he had lost faith in the right-handed Nova, who returned in June from Tommy John surgery.
“We’re trying to get the guys that are throwing the best right now,” Girardi said.
The decision to drop Nova also allowed Girardi to reconfigure his rotation for the team’s coming series against the Mets and the Blue Jays — the only likely playoff teams they will face the rest of the regular season.
