Butler had just four home runs and 31 RBIs in 85 games this season before he was cut Sunday. The 30-year-old is expected to primarily serve as designated hitter against left-handers for the Yankees down the stretch. The club faces seven southpaws in its next 11 games with playoff hopes on the line.
