As I watched Roman Reigns ("Roman Empire"), Dean Ambrose ("Ambrose Asylum") and Brock Lesnar ("Suplex City") in the ring together, two questions came up:
1. When did wrestlers wearing their own merchandise (namely t-shirts) become the norm in pro wrestling?
2. Who would be considered the originator of said practice?
I'm guessing that Hulk Hogan was the first to regularly wear his own shirts and merch during the '80s Hulkamania era, but I don't recall it becoming common until the Austin, N.W.O., D-X era of the late-'90s. And now today, every geek on the roster is running around backstage with their own shirts, so much that it's only weird when they're NOT wearing them.
