Steve Goodman’s most famous Cubs song is the one they play at Wrigley Field after Cubs wins, “Go Cubs Go.” But it’s not the only Cubs song the late Chicagoan wrote and sang.
“A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” came out in 1983, and it included this lyric: “You know the law of averages says ‘anything will happen that can.’ That’s what it says. But the last time the Cubs won the National League pennant . . . was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan.”
That lyric is now obsolete, as the Cubs have won the pennant and are headed to the World Series for the first time since 1945 .
