Tuesday’s round of 16 matchups at the Women’s World Cup feature some contenders that few followers of the sport saw coming. Instead of Germany and Brazil, we have Morocco and Jamaica. And regardless of the results, someone will be recording a first.
Morocco is the first majority Arab nation to compete in a Women's World Cup, and therefore the first to reach the round of 16. And either Colombia or Jamaica will make their first-ever quarterfinal.
The only tournament mainstay on Tuesday is France, but it will face its demons along with Morocco: France has been to the quarterfinals of the last three World Cups.
