With Aaron Judge Struggling at the Plate, Greg Bird Steps Up for the Yankees

A couple of days off, a demotion in the batting order and the presence of a real judge — Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Supreme Court — in the Judge’s Chambers at Yankee Stadium did little to spur Aaron Judge out of his second-half funk on Thursday.

But the Yankees might have found someone capable of filling Judge’s oversized hole in the batting order.

Greg Bird, gone and all but forgotten this season after a miserable start, a mysterious ankle injury and an operation, homered for the second consecutive game and drove in three runs in the Yankees’ 6-2 victory over the Red Sox.
