INDIANAPOLIS — Monday, Greg Gard lost the “interim” from his title as Wisconsin head basketball coach. That was good. Thursday, he lost his first game as permanent head coach. That was not good at all.
The university gave Gard a five-year contract to fill the position vacated in December by Badgers legend Bo Ryan, and at the first opportunity the Badgers gave him one of their poorest efforts since Ryan retired.
