WIMBLEDON, England — Ever since he won the first of his seven Wimbledon titles in 2003, Roger Federer has been a mainstay on Centre Court, tennis’s showpiece site. But with Andy Murray, the British hero, and No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic scheduled to play there, Federer was relegated to less familiar surroundings: Court No. 1.
But after making quick work of Gilles Simon, Federer put himself back in a familiar place, a Grand Slam semifinal. Federer, the No. 2 seed, wiped out No. 12 Simon, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, to reach his 37th major semifinal, extending his record.
