Someday, J.J. Watt will retire as one of the best defensive linemen the NFL has ever seen. One might even argue he could retire tomorrow, after five NFL seasons, as a future first-ballot Hall of Famer.
That's why Houston is entering the 2016 season with a nervous knot in its stomach. After a surprise back surgery, the 27-year-old defensive end will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list. The Texans can only hope Watt recovers in time for the regular season.
Otherwise, Watt will miss a start for the first time in his career — he's 85 for 85, including playoffs — and the Texans are not ready for that.
