Watch surfers risk serious injury riding world's thickest waves in Australia

Most pro surfing contests come with a certain level of risk.

At the Red Bull Cape Fear event in Sydney, Australia, it's as close to all-risk as you're going to get.

Not just anyone is allowed in the water for this one. The contest brings together 16 big-wave specialists — "slab riding specialists" — when the conditions are right at Cape Solander. What's right? That's 8-to-10 foot swells that look innocent enough at the beginning but within seconds suck up into massive walls of water.
