Mohd Faiz Subri has been named the winner of the 2016 FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the year.
The 29-year-old attacker struck a long-range free-kick for Penang against Pahang in the Malaysian Super League in February 2016, with the ball swerving in mid-air to leave the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.
Faiz's goal was described as a 'knuckleball' effort by FIFA in their shortlist of three best goals, eventually beating Marlone and Daniuska Rodriguez to the award at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Zurich on January 9, 2017.
"Honestly it never crossed my mind that I would be at this level and be able to stand with world-class players," said Subri.
