Haiti hurdler Jeffrey Julmis became a living illustration of that truth during the men's 110-meter hurdle semifinals at the Rio Olympic games Tuesday.
Prior to the start of the race, he exuded all the confidence int the world, tappping his wrist in front of a camera to signify it was his time and pointing to the heavens. But fate had other plans as he buste his behind out the gate to end his dreams of capturing a gold.
