The U.S. women's national team opened up the Summer Olympics with a 2-0 win over New Zealand on Wednesday, but that wasn't without something odd happening.

If you haven't heard about the Zika virus by now, where have you been? Zika, an illness transmitted mainly from mosquito bites, has been linked to microcephaly in newborn babies, with Brazil as the epicenter. As a result, some U.S. national team members expressed concern with going to Brazil for the Summer Olympics.

U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo has been vocal about it, even suggesting earlier in the year that she could skip the games.
