WATCH: Brian Cashman removes his 2009 World Series ring in A-Rod's defense

The "count the rings" argument is an exhausted and oversimplified approach to player evaluation. Still, it's worth highlighting whenever a general manager literally drops his ring on the table in support of a player, as Yankees GM Brian Cashman did during the Alex Rodriguez press conference on Sunday.

Rodriguez and the Yankees announced that Friday will be No. 13's last game in pinstripes. And when a reporter asked about Rodriguez's Yankees legacy, Cashman responded by mentioning his 2009 World Series championship ring. Cashman then removed the ring and set it in front of him, noting that he wouldn't have it without Rodriguez's contributions.
