USA striker Bobby Wood and Hamburg have been mired in a scoring drought, but that changed early in the club's German Cup second-round match against third-tier Hallescher FC on Tuesday.
Wood scored in the eighth minute, tallying for the third time this season but for the first time since Sept. 10.
The goal came off a classic counterattack, with a clearance off a Hallescher throw-in turning directly into a scoring opportunity for Hamburg. Wood was the beneficiary, though he overcame a bit of a heavy touch to his right by chipping the on-rushing goalkeeper to give Hamburg the 1-0 lead.
