Arsenal defender Gabriel sent a loving message back to Brazil, reaching out to Chapecoense and its supporters, after 71 people, including players and club staffers, died Monday night in a plane crash on the way to the Copa Sudamerica final in Colombia.
Chapecoense was set to play Atletico Nacional in Colombia for the cup, before the tragic accident took place as the plane ran out of fuel.
Gabriel, a native of Brazil, began his career playing for Vitória.
Fans in Brazil and around the world have shown support for Chapecoense, who will reportedly be awarded the Copa Sudamericana title, at Atletico Nacional’s behest.
