Two nuggets of great news for Washington: Second-year general manager Scot McCloughan indeed knows what he's doing, and the Redskins' best player is going nowhere.
Washington on Thursday announced a contract extension for tight end Jordan Reed. It's a five-year, $50 million deal, according to ESPN, which is on par with what Chiefs TE Travis Kelce received in January.
That's great value for one of the league's better pass-catching tight ends.
Reed deserves credit for elevating quarterback Kirk Cousins, who too is coming off a career year. But Reed's masking of Cousins' deficiencies might be one reason Washington is pumping the breaks on the QB's extension, or lack thereof.
