New York (AFP) - Edinson Volquez pitched in tribute to his late father Daniel and helped the Kansas City Royals capture their first World Series title in 30 years.

The 32-year-old Dominican right-hander started and pitched six innings for the Royals, keeping them near enough to fight back for a 7-2 12-inning triumph over the New York Mets.

That gave Kansas City a 4-1 victory in Major League Baseball's best-of-seven final and brought the team's first crown since 1985, but only after a week of personal tragedy.
