HOUSTON — Among other things, it is Danny Gavitt’s job to run the NCAA Tournament, so he was understandably thrilled by a national championship game that thrilled and entertained everyone who watched, that left every spectator but those who wear Carolina blue with a feeling of extraordinary satisfaction.
Gavitt grew up in a Big East household, however. Dave Gavitt founded the conference back in the late 1970s, was the first commissioner and served in that position for 11 years. As coach Jay Wright and his Wildcats celebrated on the court at NRG Stadium, Danny was pleased to answer a question about what his dad might have thought of Villanova becoming the first team from the reconstituted Big East to win an NCAA basketball title.
