Victory Sends U.S. Women to Rio Games

HOUSTON — Alex Morgan scored three goals, and the United States secured a spot in the Olympics in August with a 5-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago on Friday night in the semifinals of the Concacaf Olympic qualifying tournament.

Tobin Heath scored the opening goal in the 12th minute, and Carli Lloyd scored in the 43rd minute.

Canada secured Concacaf’s other spot in the Games with a 3-1 victory over Costa Rica in an earlier match at BBVA Compass Stadium. The 11th-ranked Canadians will face the top-ranked Americans on Sunday in the tournament’s final match.

The United States will be seeking its fourth straight Olympic gold medal and its fifth over all.
