The Dolphins ranked 25th in total defense last season, and safety Michael Thomas recently explained why Miami had trouble slowing down opposing offenses.
Thomas told 120 Sports that Dolphins coaches "handcuffed" defensive players with "vanilla" play-calling.

"We were limited to how many plays and the types of plays we could call," Thomas said. "We had a lot of young guys back there. Not making excuses, this is fact; this is true."
The Dolphins fired coach Joe Philbin last October four games into the season.
