Chase Utley's appeal on his two-game suspension appears unlikely to be heard before Game 3, potentially setting up a dramatic showdown in New York with Utley still active and perhaps even in the lineup.
The union and Utley's camp are said to believe they need more than 24 hours to prepare for an important case, and the CBA only mandates that appeals be heard with 14 days. There's little belief an extra day would give tm enough time, either, according to people familiar with the union thinking, so the likelihood is Utley will be active for both games in New York.
