The United States Olympic Committee is expanding its efforts to reassure athletes and staff over concerns about the Zika virus as they prepare to head to Brazil this summer.
CEO Scott Blackmun told USA Today on Wednesday that the USOC will enlist two infectious-disease specialists to consult with athletes worried about the potential effects of the virus that has been linked to birth defects. Blackmun later sent a letter to all prospective members of the Olympic and Paralympic delegations assuring them that all measures will be taken to avoid any health issues.
