The U.S. men’s national team continued its World Cup qualifying journey Sunday night, taking on Panama on Orlando. With just one more qualifier remaining after that fixture, the U.S. is closing in on a spot in Qatar.
Will a win against Panama clinch it? The short answer is no, but the longer answer is that the U.S. will all but clinch a spot in the World Cup this fall with a victory.
At the time of this writing, the United States leads Panama 4–0. Costa Rica, the U.S.’s opponent in the final qualifying match on Wednesday, picked up a 2–1 win over El Salvador earlier Sunday.
