The Seattle Sounders announced on Friday that star striker Clint Dempsey will skip this Sunday's rivalry game against the Portland Timbers in order to undergo medical evaluations for an irregular heartbeat. More from the team's statement:

"As the medical process unfolds and information is gathered internally, no other details are being made publicly available at this time."

According to general manager and team president Garth Lagerwey, the Sounders have been monitoring Dempsey's medical condition for some time, so let's just hope that these are precautionary tests and that nothing serious comes out of this and that he is able to make a speedy return to the field.
