LANCASTER, Pa. — After a 66 in the first round of the United States Women’s Open on Thursday, a quick television interview, a news conference, another television interview and a bite to eat, Marina Alex was finally able to find some peace and quiet. The demands of being a co-leader of the Open can be burdensome, especially if you have never been in that position.
Alex found solace at the far end of the driving range, pounding golf balls into the sticky afternoon air before play was suspended because of severe weather.
As fellow players offered congratulations, Alex smiled and gave a slight wave before returning her attention to the bucket of balls.
