PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- The United States defeated Canada 3-2 in a shootout to win the gold medal in Thursday's women's hockey final.
The Americans won their first gold since 1998. Canada was going for its fifth straight Olympic gold medal in women's hockey.
The game was tied 2-all at the end of regulation and after 20 minutes of overtime.
Canada was up 2-1 until Monique Lamoreux-Morando tied it for the Americans with just over six minutes left in the third period.
