More than 1,000 U.S. intelligence operatives are assigned to Olympics security in and round Rio de Janeiro as part of an effort to protect the 2016 Summer Games, NBC News reported Friday, citing its exclusive review of "a highly classified report on U.S. intelligence efforts."
According to the report, hundreds of analysts and law enforcement and special operations personnel are already on the ground in Rio. Commandos from U.S. Special Operations also are in Brazil working with federal police and the country's navy, unidentified senior U.S. military officials told NBC News, and other U.S. military units are ready to deploy as needed.
