Six U.S. senators penned a letter to NBA commissioner Adam Silver imploring he move the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte, N.C., The Charlotte Observer reported.
Democratic Sens. Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Patty Murray of Washington state, along with Republican Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois said they "hold no ill will toward the people of Charlotte" but cannot "stand idly by as North Carolina moves to legalize and institutionalize discrimination."

Atlanta has already moved in and offered up the city as an alternate location after North Carolina passed the controversial House Bill 2 (HB2) last month that did away with local-level, legal protections for members of the LGBT community — notably in Charlotte, where an ordinance extending protections had been passed in February.
