Novak Djokovic looked well on his way to an easy victory Friday in US Open semifinal play. Then he responded to late pressure from Ben Shelton to secure his place in Sunday's final.
There, Djokovic will face No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev, who defeated top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the other semifinal. The final is a rematch of the 2021 US Open final that Medvedev won in straight sets.
Djokovic took early control of Friday's match with a break in the opening set to go up, 4-2. He maintained control until a tense third set, in which he held on for a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory to advance to his 10th US Open final.
