Track and field doesn’t get much attention in the United States most of the time. Athletes train and compete in relative obscurity, outside the diehards who keep up with every time and personal best of these elite athletes.
But the closer the Olympics get, the more these athletes become household names. Who could forget Michael Johnson winning the double gold while wearing gold spikes? Or Florence Griffith-Joyner’s long, dazzling nails and flamboyant outfits?

But before displaying their talents on the world’s stage, they must prove themselves on the national one.
