SAN DIEGO — David Wright walked through the visitors’ clubhouse at Petco Park on Tuesday afternoon, greeting teammates he had not seen in several weeks. He moved gingerly, his posture straight as a board in an effort to protect his back as much as possible. When he stands, it often feels achy and tight and uncomfortable.
Those are the symptoms Wright experiences as he deals with spinal stenosis, the ailment he has been rehabbing extensively in the Los Angeles area, the condition he will have to manage for the rest of his career. Wright, who has already missed about seven weeks this season, was visiting the Mets for the day, just to check in, because he was still unsure when he would swing a bat again.
