Fabricio Werdum will make the first defense of his UFC heavyweight title Saturday when he battles Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 198 from the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.
Werdum (20-5-1), fighting in his home country for the fifth time in his career, became the undisputed champion when he beat Cain Velasquez by submission at UFC 188 last June. Velasquez was scheduled to get the rematch at UFC 196 in Febraury, but the former champ had to bow out due to injury. Miocic (14-2) was offered the fight but Werdum then pulled out to heal some nagging injuries.
