Ty Dillon might become a full-time Sprint Cup driver in 2017, and on Sunday he continued his role as a fill-in.
Dillon will drive the No. 7 car in the Chase for the Sprint Cup's first race, Tommy Baldwin Racing announced. Usual driver Regan Smith was home in North Carolina for the birth of a child.
Dillon drove in Saturday's Xfinity Series race at Chicagoland. He finished 11th and earned a place in the 12-man Xfinity Chase championship series.
Sunday, he will start in Regan's car, which qualified 33rd for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400.
