If Sydney Seau proved anything Saturday night at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it was that the relatives of deceased inductees like her father, Junior, deserve to make a speech at their enshrinement ceremonies. Who would have thought otherwise?
The Hall enacted a small-minded policy in 2010 to deny families such a spot on the stage in Canton, Ohio. It said it was a way to avoid having relatives repeat what was said in short presentation videos. But, really, who cares if they do? If a father or husband is dead, is anyone harmed by a few words in their honor from a family member?
