If the hospitality at last year’s Kentucky Derby was a disappointment for the winner’s owners, the 2014 Belmont Stakes was a disappointment for nearly everyone else. Long lines at concession stands and betting windows, a lack of food and drinks late in the day, a shortage of ushers and transportation blunders after the race left many unsatisfied.
This year, as the Derby winner American Pharoah embarks on his Triple Crown quest, the New York Racing Association announced before the Preakness Stakes has even been run that the paid attendance for the Belmont Stakes will be capped at 90,000.
