The Portland Timbers have acquired former New York Red Bulls defender Roy Miller, the club announced Wednesday, though he will remain with Costa Rican side Saprissa through the end of February.
Acquired via transfer, Miller plans to represent Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals against Mexican power Pachuca on Feb. 21 and 28 before joining Portland ahead of its MLS opener March 3.
"Roy is a player with six years of experience in MLS and is excited by this opportunity to return to the league," Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a news release. "He is a proven player who has been an integral part of Saprissa's recent success, and we look forward to him making similar contributions with the Timbers.
